My curiosity got to me this evening, wondering what type of posting activity our membership displays. I'm guessing the "Show off your pens" and "Casual Conversation" are the two forums with the largest number of posts, but could not immediately find out how to check that. I did take a gander at volume of posts by member, though, and was a little surprised. Here's some statistics:
Of the 8,595 members (at 7:30pm, CST 03/02/2010) who took the time to register, 4,477 have not added a single post. Looks like a lot of lurkers out there!! Of the 4,018 who have contributed posts, 1,800 have 9 or fewer posts. That's right, of the 8,595 members, only slightly more than 1 out of 4 (2,218) have posted 10 or more times. of those, 1,222 have posted more than 50 times. Of those, 861 have 100 or more posts. 295 with 500 or more posts, 173 with 1,000 or more posts, 46 with 2,500 or more posts, 16 with 5,000 or more posts, and 4, count 'em, 4, with 7,500 or more posts. And then, there's Ed. Yep, as most of you have likely guessed or knew, when it comes to sheer volume of posts, ed4copies is the man. The big Kahuna. The chattiest of "Chatty Kathys". Folks, I believe this wonderful site that we have all grown to love is, to a certain extent, contributing to the mental health and well being of the PR princess. Can you imagine what her world would be like if Ed spent all that time with just her ears to bear the burden? Imagine a world that didn't have the wonderful handcast blanks that so often have graced the pages of the "Show off your pens" forum, because Dawn was forced to bear the burden of Ed's conversational demands on her shoulders alone. From that perspective, almost seems like we're engaging in a community service in helping keep Ed occupied so Dawn can continue her artistic endevours with a modicum of peace.....

So Ed, does the IAP interfere with your day job, or vice versa? Or are you one of the lucky folks I so begrudge, retired or partly retired and able to devote more time to this addictive and oh so enjoyable pasttime?

That must be why Ed's little avatar thingy doesnt have his post count... the computer can't count that high?

I guess i shouldn't say much... I have been a member less that a year, and I am one of the 173 members over 1k posts.

And the IAP`s second highest poster is balding Scotsman, little old me!

Since we are talking post counts, I have often wondered why some hide their post counts. As if we can't find them????
For what reason would you do this????
Lyle I notice that you hide yours yet you do research on post counts??

I think they do it so if their significant other is looking over their shoulder they will not really realize how much time they spend on here:eek:.

I hide my post count so it doesn't remind ME that I spend too much time here.
I hide my 'Online' status so it doesn't remind my BOSS that I spend too much time here:redface::biggrin:

In the words of a man I greatly admire: "Stars and post count hidden to avoid any implication of knowledge. "

I hope nobody is insulted by my inserted comments below. If you aren't aware, Lyle's avatar is a picture of him coming home from work. He is covered with money, it's just stuck to him like he was covered with CA and dropped into a bank vault full of loose bills. You see, he's a money guy. And he works with banks. Heck, that might be TARP money dripping off of him, your and my tax dollars.

I have to admit that I have already enraged the little missus by the teacher comment. It was pretty stupid of me to read it to her.

My curiosity got to me this evening, I'd say it got the best of you wondering what type of posting activity our membership displays. I'm guessing there you go guessing again the "Show off your pens" and "Casual Conversation" are the two forums with the largest number of posts, but could not immediately find out how to check that. I did take a gander you put that goose back right now at volume of posts by member, though, and was a little surprised. Here's some statistics:

Of the 4,018 who have contributed posts, 1,800 have 9 or fewer posts probably because they don't have much to say or they can't type a word in edgewise because Ed has the bandwidth tied up. That's right, of the 8,595 members, only slightly more than 1 out of 4 (2,218) have posted 10 or more times. of those, 1,222 have posted more than 50 times. Of those, 861 have 100 or more posts. 295 with 500 or more posts because they are willing to share their knowledge, 173 with 1,000 or more posts because they have too much time on their hands, 46 with 2,500 or more posts because they have way too much time on their hands, 16 with 5,000 or more posts because those that can't do teach, and 4, count 'em, 4, with 7,500 or more posts because they have digital diarrhea. From that perspective, almost seems like we're engaging in a community service in helping keep Ed occupied so Dawn can continue her artistic endevours with a modicum of peace.....and I believe each one of us deserves an original PR Princess blank in appreciation!!!!

So Ed, does the IAP interfere with your day job, or vice versa? Or are you one of the lucky folks I so begrudge, retired or partly retired and able to devote more time to this addictive and oh so enjoyable pasttime? George (Texatdurango) says that it is very nice to be begrudged sometimes!!!

Wow I am one of the 295 members with over 500 posts. I have only been a member since the beginning of December, I guess I spend too much time on here. I guess that is one of the few perks of being unemployed. LOL

I decided to quit posting as much when I was reminded that most of my posts contribute very little value to IAP:eek:, that and I will never catch up to Ed and Cav!!

Rob,

You need a couple PM's from the folks who say, "I was injured or recovering from surgery or whatever and I went to the IAP every day, just to get a little relaxation---you were there, making light of the world. It helped me forget the pain for a few minutes".

I've had these, they MAKE MY DAY!!!

FWIW
