This is probably a newbie question - but here goees. I was wondering if it is necessary to wear a respirator when turning/sanding acrylic blanks?? I am for sure wearing one when turning/sanding exotic woods.

thanks,
Yeager

I'd say that this is an individual decision. Wear one if you want to or if you are negatively impacted by turning acrylic.

I think you still have to be concerned about dust control. You may not get an allergic reaction like you may from wood but you could still develop respiratory problems from fine dust.

I think this depends alot on your processing... I'd worry about dust no matter what you are doing... That being said - I use DC for acrylics to suck in all the long stringy things. As for dust, I dont' use DC during the sanding phase as I wet sand acrylics exclusively now.
