They're normally moist inside and the nut meat never dries. So, it's not going to work I don't think.

What about if you just use the tops and the empty shells? I guess some of the squirrels around here are pretty good because they can leave the shells intact and get the nut meat out. I see shells and tops empty all the time.
 
Well, I don't think a bunch of shells suspended in resin is going to give you much to look at. The shells are about as thin as paper, so it's not going to lend much.

I think the best thing to do with the tops are find the real large ones, turn accorns out of hardwoods, glue them to the tops, install eyehook, bind a pair together with twine and give them out as Christmas ornaments.

Other than that, I don't think they have a practical application, but I hope I'm wrong seeing how plentiful they are.
