Acedic Silicone

Ok, I read the tutorials about mold making. It says to use acedic silicone. I went to look for some but how do you know if it is or not. I did not see anything about acedic on the tube. Of course the fine print on the back may have, I didn't take my reading glasses

Haven't tried it yet but my silicone says "releases acetic acid fumes" or something like that in the small print. David

Actually, I think what you are looking for is Acetic Cure silicon. (http://content.penturners.org/articles/2010/horizontalroundmold.pdf).
One of the characteristics of these types of silicones are that they have a strong vinegar smell as they cure. I suspect that you could ask at your local Bath/Kitchen store or one of the Big Box home improvement stores. I don't have any brand names for you, or product coding information, sorry.

I have never made a mold in my life but I do work with silicone.
In the aisle at your hardware store you will find silicone and caulking, they are NOT the same. What you want is 100% silicone. Paint does not stick to it. If the tube says paintable it is probably not the right stuff. Hope this helps.

Go to Wal Mart and the cheap clear tube of silicone is the one you want. I have seen it for $1.59 a tube at the Galveston Store.
