I'm sure that, most or all, here when we get around wood visualize what can be made from it especially if it's grained real nice. I stopped by an Ollies, in Frederick Md today and here was a table full of Paula Deen cutting boards, of which only one had nice dark grain in it, all others were lighter-attached. A couple of older ladies saw the one I picked up and ask what knife I was going to use on it. Well, I was in the woodworking train of thought, and said "a band saw to cut them into blanks, and skew to turn them round on a lathe into pens". That was the WRONG, and WRONG answer. Glad my wife called from 2 asles away to look at something, but I still looked back occasionally to see if I was going to get fanny cracked by one of them. Perturbed/mad is not quite the word for their look, or short comments.

Has anyone used this before for pens? It seems like an oily wood, and anything in particular to expect. Good size for several blanks 12x6x1.

I bought one last year. Mine was a pie board or something. The wood is not nearly as dark as the stain they put on them. But if it has character it works. It has made some cool pens.
