If you buy the Jr.-sized abalone sheet you get two pens worth of material. My leftover was about half the length of the tubes. I whipped up some oversized end caps out of gaboon ebony and made these two pens.

I might like this pen even better than the full abalone pens I made, and could opt to stretch the abalone into 4 pens this way. I poured some solid black blanks from alumilite for the end caps next time. I'd probably add some aluminum spacers and pair it with a chrome kit on my next one.

Beautiful! I admire your finishes (and pictures). I'll bet this would work equally well going with Holly for the opposite effect of the ebony. Then again, I'm sure there's plenty of combinations. That is a great way to get your money's worth from the abalone, though!
