Well it almost worked. Recently I posted a thread on my ventures into casting. This is the original post.

I have never turned PR before and found it's quit different then polymer and wood. Most of my turning is polymer. I had read that PR can be brittle, but didn't experience that until I was almost done:mad: turning a blank. It didn't help I was getting a little impatient, but when I was almost to size and getting ready to move to sanding my skew caught the blank just enough to rip out a nice chunk of PR:mad::mad::eek:!!!

I didn't spend alot of time finishing after that, but I did do a little sanding so I could start to see how the blank would look without the big hole in it. I must say I like it. It did have a few tiny air bubbles that were easy to fill with CA. The good thing is I have 3 more blanks (3 different colors) from the batch to practice on.

Please let me know what you think!

Keith:
It looks great for a first attempt. When I try something new, I always plan for at least three revisions.

I know you do something similar. I'd be willing to bet that your next one turns out like the rest of your work, which is always beautiful, tastefully designed and flawlessly executed.

I can't wait to see the "2.0" version of this pen! Keep pushing the envelope! This cork could also look good as a top or bottom barrel, with PC grapes and vines on the other barrel? Just a thought?

Andy, Thanks for the great comments.

I got home today and pulled out the second of 4 blanks. The color on this one was not my favorite and that is why I chose it. If it blows up....so be it! I made sure my tools were sharp and went at it. Is it going to blow......I'm waiting for blank failure.....It survived! Now I wish I would have picked on of the other ones. The good thing is the color is the easiest part to change. I found several inks that work great on polymer and give the clay a really nice effect.

The pen is posted in the SOYP! Thanks for following my experiment.
