Lately my wife and I have been spending a lot of money - a lot for us anyway - on carpet, linoleum, TV, living room furniture, and kitchen furniture, well yesterday she said" we may have enough left to buy that lathe you've been looking at". She did, she really said that!!!!! :D I have been looking at the Nova 1624-44 since they came out but things changed rather quickly and we didn't have the money. Now I may get one. If I can find a better used lathe for about the same price I may buy it but either way I get a new - to me - lathe. If any of you have this lathe, how do you like it?

Tom,

Comgratulations on getting the "go ahead" to get the lathe. I know that you were talking about it while I was out there. I assume we will be seeing some larger bowls now? It sounds like she is keeping you busy in the house right now. I hope the family is well.

Thanks Jeremy, next time you're out this way we may have another one to play on.

If you could swing the Powermatic deal that Dario has going you would not regret it. Take the wife down to southern Texas for a little spring break while picking it up. It's a win win situation!

Believe me I have thought about Darios lathe but I don't have the money or the time to drive down there. It would be worth the drive if I could just talk him out of some of his wood.;)

R2 I've had this same woman for more than 40yrs now and she just about has me broken in so I'll keep her. :D[)]

Tom,
Congrats on the new lathe... I don't have the Nova, but after some very good sales this month, I have a go ahead to upgrade. I looked at the Nova and liked what I read, so I went to Woodcraft in Knoxville to check it out... they didn't have one in stock and I got a lot of negative comments from the owner.. she said she's only sold one in a year and it was returned after replacing 2 motors... one rep, said it is direct drive and not his cup of tea.. to me looks like a nice lathe.. and on other threads, I've read very positive comments. I'm still looking, but I think I've decided on the JET 1442 myself.
