Holy carp! That was amazing. Just a skew, a rope, and his foot! Oh and a boat load more talent then me. He turned a captive ring with that!

I am very impressed!

So that's how you do a floating ring. The only thing is, at my age I don't think I can get my toes up high enough to reach the damn lathe. And I know he didn't spend as much as I did on my lathe.

Oh great... Now pen turning will be outsourced as I'm sure he'll do it cheaper and faster than it can be done here.:biggrin:

I've shown that video to a ton of people, and all have been consistently amazed.

Well, that's one way of turning I'd never be able to do. My toes are too short.

Wow! Ya work with what'cha got, huh?

Tradition!! that is some fancy foot work, and economy of motion, not to mention I imagine his Skew chisel was probably a leaf spring on a car or truck in it's past life. who does the line go "tis a poor craftsman that blames his shoddy work on his tools" if you look on You Tube there are several videos done with bow lathes and pole lathes.

I also missed the original post, so thank you for re-posting this! It took my computer forever to load the video, and i didnt watch the whole thing but what i was able to watch was amazing. I had a magazine article that had plans on how to make a lathe out of bicycle parts and a spring. This video makes me want to build that lathe!

Fun stuff for sure!
