The figure around knots has always intrigued me and I set myself the challenge of completing a pen using a blank containing a knot. I tried, and failed, several times with some walnut, despite using "lots" of thin CA. The blank either broke on the lather or when I tried to assemble the pen. Not to be deterred I succeeded with the attached modified slimline. The "knotty" wood is Arbutus, the accent wood is Cocobolo and the ends are Bocote. Although the photo does not show it very well the area around the knot is smooth. It needed several applications of thin CA both during turning and sanding/finishing. I sanded to 600, followed by fine Yorkshire Grit, and topped that off with Shellawax.
