Hi People
I thought that I would share with you some of the pieces I have made since beginning this obsession with turning good wood into shavings.
An experienced turner told me it was OK to cheat, but would not elaborate further when I asked him how to achieve a really deep hollow.
The green vase is made from pine boards glued together and measurers 24in high and 9in diameter. I had to really think how I could achieve this as I only had a basic set of chisels, I had no deep hollowing tools then.
So how did I get to the bottom, I hollowed out about 3-4in at a time and cut that piece off and started again, all the way down to about 2in so there was a bit of weight in the base. Then I cut a tenon around each section and glued it all back together. Cool hey!
Next is a bud vase with glass tube made from Blackheart sassafras.
No.3 is a box made from Knotty Pine.
No.4 is a Spalted Willow bowl, and
Last but not least is a piece of Macrocarpa cut from the edge of a root,
which highlights the natural edge.
Yourthoughts and comments welcome.
