Great job! Hope you will post pictures of the pens after you make them. Would be nice to see the "before" and "after" at the same time. Russ
 
Some very different types of timber....the white cast blank does indeed look like oak. Although I can't say the oak in the other two look quite like 'oak', they came out really dark. Maybe the resin?

Regardless, looking good! Can't wait to see what they end up looking like once turned....

You are right Scott, in a way. I think the wood dose darken a little bit during the stabilization process but with this particular piece of wood I'm working with the bottom of the tree which tends to be darker but it is also means it's interesting in terms of figuring and grain structure.
