Sunday I decided to cut up part of the Chittum burl block I got from Exoticblanks the other week. Here are a few of half the block I cut into 7/8" x 7/8" x 5 1/4" blanks. This stuff is nice :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Can't wait to try a pen or two. Should look good on a Lotus kit. Thinking about stabilizing some of the blanks. Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think.

Beautiful! I dont think Ive ever owned a blank that looked that nice. (and if I did, I would be afraid to turn it) Looks like the best of the best!

I don't know... They look kinda questionable to me Keith. You should let me get rid of them for ya... out of concern for your well-being of course. After all, you could get a splinter or something.

I would have several stabilized just to stay on the 'safe side' as we all know about how many burls can and do self-destruct. Of course that wouldn't be due to any faults of our own ... not that using very sharp, scary sharp, tools doesn't hurt anything when it comes to burls!

I would drill one, get it tubed and mounted on the lathe and start turning it. You will see very quickly if it needs stabilization. You can always stabilize it on the fly with thin CA or unmount it and use some Minwax Hardener on it. My $.02.
:wink::wink::wink:

PS... BeeeUTeeful blanks!
