I know some others have done this, and there is plenty of info and tutorials out on the web, but I thought I'd give it a go.

The piece isn't quite good enough for a pen. but I did turn it round and sand it to 220 grit to see what it would look like. That's what you are seeing in the pic.

I had a few air pockets as I couldn't get my clamps tight enough. I have a 6 ton press on its way to take care of that "problem".

I just clamped up a Paper Micarta that has Black, Ivory and Purples in flat layers.

The "burl" is a variation that is completely random so no real layers show up.
