Here are some things I have turned recently out of a choke cherry log my son-in-law gave me a couple years ago.

The first three are of the same cherry bowl.

The second three are of a raised platter.

Both are nice, I really like the raised platter. I should try one of those someday

Tony, Is the base on the raised platter hollowed out? If not, how does that work out during the drying process?

Yes, it is hollowed out but the blank was pretty dry. It may have moved just a tiny bit as it seems to rock very slightly in one direction, but it seems pretty stable. Nothing that a minute with the sanding block wouldn't fix.

Simply amazing.

I need to invest in some larger wood stock for bowl turning. All the ones I've made are from 3x3 stock so they're really small.

Impressive work. The coloring of that cherry is top notch!

Nice work. What type of finish did you use?

(I've been in the UK for the past 5 days and couldn't reply easily)

The platter has one coat of walnut oil on it. I'll work on it a bit yet - probably will steel wool or 600 grit sand paper it and another coat of walnut oil for a food safe finish.

The bowl has a few coats of wipe-on poly and is buffed and Renaissance Wax.
