Hi everyone, I recently got into stabilizing wood and have been having a great time, the next step I would like to experiment with is double dying. Ive been reading a lot about how to do it and there seems to be a couple techniques I have found.
1. Apply a base color with limited vacuum pressure and limited time in the vacuum.
2. Soaking the wood for a period of time and then applying the secondary color.
I have a few questions for the veterans here, for rough drafts I am using some soft maple wood before moving towards more exotic woods like curly koa.
1. What technique would you recommend for the base results?
2. If you recommend the limited vacuum technique, how long do you leave the wood submerged and what vacuum pressure would you recommend
3. If you recommend soaking, how long should the initial soak be for good permeation
4. Do you recommend baking the initial color/sanding down and then applying the second dye or bake it all at once?
Any other tips and tricks are greatly appreciated!
