Hi all you casting people.

I have a bit of a special request, hope anyone can help.

A while ago one of our beloved cats passed away, a lovely persian female. She is very much missed.
Now, we have a lot of her fur, from grooming, and wondered if anyone here think it is possible to cast this into a pen blank, and can do it for us ?

We are looking for having made maybe 5 to 10 blanks, and hope that someone here is up for the challenge.

Thank you

Hi folks.

Is there really noone here who think they can do it for me, or know someone who is known to do this commercially ?

Thank you

Vegard

Hi Vegard,
I think everyone is not quite sure how this would turn out. When cat hair gets wet it is going to ball up. Truthfully I am not sure how nice cast resin cat hair would look.
Can anyone think of a design that would work?
Maybe if some one could come up with a plan, someone would be willing to do this for you.

I do alot of casting and embedding, but this I'm not so sure will look the way you may envision it to look. The tube would need to be painted, cat hair applied running the length of the barrel and laying flat. The problem I see with it is that each strand will have to be done one at a time. Would you rather have a picture of your cat cast in resin on your favorite pen tube? With maybe the feline's birthday and name as well?! the resin also may make the fur look mangy. Just my .02 worth

I can see why our casters are not sure how to tackle this one and may I suggest something that is the combination of the original request and some other suggestions already given above, there is, cast a pic of the cat with the name and dates (birth/death) AND add a small amount of the cats hair, rolled into a snail shell type shape.

This would be probably better done in one of the kits with a single but longer tube/barrel. The composition of the pic, text and a "box" type frame printed in the base pic, where the hairs will be inserted.

I'm not sure how confusing/difficult the idea appear to others but if necessary, I'm willing to make up a pic sample of what I'm talking about, but I believe, its is pretty much self explanatory to those that have casted pics before...!

Cheers

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

We were only thinking having the hair casted in clair resin, so I could reverse paint the tube hole, for color effect.

The cat hair in question is from a long haired persian cat, and would probably easily form in a cylinder shape ??

I understand that it might be difficult, I was just hoping that someone might have a solution, idea, or maybe experience with doing it.

OK, I've done one of these as a request and I don't think I ever want to do another :)
I had a similar request and attempted a pen for the customer. The pen was to be made from the fur of three different cats. Different colours. When I wrapped the barrel and cast it, all the colours seemed to blended into one big "drowned rat" kind of look.
The customer loved it. I had a different opinion
The cap was fur, the lower barrel was done in a collage of the medical records.
Fur was glued to the tube and cast in clear resin
