They are a bunch of wood butchering hacks - woodturner wannabes

To say that they were inspiring, I'm sure, is an understatement.

John, I'm sure that at least one of them has turned a pen but they all happen to be well known British wood turners and demonstrators.

Hi Chuckie!

I've met most of those guys before. What a great group! How is Alan Batty kicking these days? Does he still give Stuart Batty a hard time in their presentations?

I think in watching these guys doing their thing, I gained more from Stuart Mortimer because of his use of the skew. To watch him with a skew, roughing out a large spindle, is just mesmerizing! And I have to say he was the most gracious towards us penturners, asking questions and wanting to see our pens - nice guy!

You're lucky to have spent time with them. A really good bunch of people!

Scott.

Chuck,Where did you manage to see such a great bunch of wood turners, and how long before your head stops spinning?. It's funny, I have a Jimmy Clewes signature Bowl gouge, but my bowls don't look any thing like his, same thing with my Les Paul guitar, his has more notes than mine does.

They were at the North Carolina Woodturning Symposium held this past weekend at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. A complete list of demonstrators is available at the event web site. http://www.northcarolinawoodturning.com/

The gallery included one pen display and one giant slimline. I did not get the names of the turners.

Wow, what a great lineup! I love to watch Jimmy Clewes live behind a lathe, what a treat that is. He has moved to Las Vegas, so I am not so sure he is a "blue" blood anymore...LOL....

Jimmy Clewes was at our woodturning club in May.

He was turning a large chunk of wood into a vase when he "found" a grub with his gouge.

His comment while wiping off his safety glasses was, "glad I wasn't talking just then"!:eek:

Thanks guys for the links to some beautiful turnings. Works of art that would look real good in my house. If only I could afford them. It makes one long for the experience to be able to create the same.

Chuckie,

I was there too. WOW is a good summary. I learned a lot and had a load of fun.

Wish I had thought to post something in advance to arrange a meet and greet with other IAP members.

Tony
