I think some of you know that I have been home on disability for the past 2 1/2 months. Still no answers, and I go to the hospital this afternoon for pulmonary function and echocardiogram testing. That's beside the point, just an explanation for all my reading time.

I received a recommendation to read the book, "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsch, book 1. It is so thought provoking that it will make a big change in my life. Too bad 2/3 or more of my life is used up!

It will not be a book that all of you would embrace, but what he tells us about ourselves is tremendous. The two ideas that I will share here are; "We teach our children conditional love." What a horrible thing to do. This has gone on for generations, well actually just about forever. We take these precious little ones and teach them that if they make mistakes we might not love them so much. Criminal! The second and really important to me, "Most people move through life unconsciously." We pay no attention to what all the rage, worry, fear, and abuse we subject our bodies too is really doing to us. Then one day we fall ill and wonder what the he** happened. Simple engineering really, I took better care of all the machines I own than I did myself. My greatest machine!!!!!!!!!!!

The book is not an easy read at the beginning, but don't miss the ending. It may just help you love the ones around you a little more today.;) There is a movie version but Blockbuster didn't have it. I really suggest you read the book. Barnes and Noble had 17 copies on the rack when I went there. Guess others have already heard.:)

Good lessons indeed, Rich. [;)] I haven't read the book, but LOML and I must be a bit weird. We did not teach our children that and have repeatedly shown them just the opposite. The second part is a bit tougher, but we're working on that too. Maybe we picked it up via osmosis. [:D]

In our family it's always stressed how much love there is. We tell the kids we don't like the way they ACT sometimes but the love is there 24/7.

As for the bodies, I think the book is right. Most people don't think about what they're doing to their bodies until some illness (or something like that) comes along and slaps you in the face.

Glad you told us about it, thanks.

I have also had the book recommended to me, and it's on my list the next time I go to the bookstore.

The old line about your body is a temple is true, but almost all of us don't do a great job of upkeep on the temple. Living the good life had put way too many pounds on me, and I wasn't doing much to stay in shape. A good friend recently passed away in his sleep from a heart attack, younger and in better shape than I am. Went to get annual physical first week in January, blood pressure up, gained more weight, etc. Finaly occured to me why I wasn't losing weight- in the past I tried diet and excercise with little real luck, but forgot the third and most important thing- prayer. That was has made the difference. I cut back on junk food and ride the excercise bike an hour everyday, and pray. In the last 30 days I have dropped 20 pounds and still going, caught up on a lot of reading while on the bike, and spent a lot of time talking with God. I feel better than I have in years, sleep better at night, more energy during the day, snoring has drastically decreased so LOML is happier, always seem to have more $$ since I'm not feeding the snack machines, blood pressure is down, etc. To all my fellow turners out there take my word for it. Take better care of yourself while you can, and you know who to turn to for help. Peace+ . . . and now to hope over to Amazon.com to order that book!

Congrats Ray, Live long and prosper.
I see so many young folks (meaning 30-50 something) just kill over. Some you expect becuase you knew their life style, but others I thought were a picture of good health. Glad I believe in fate. I think when it's your time, that's it. When your number is pulled, time is up. So in our house, nobody ever goes to bed with an attitude, you never know when that bed bug will bite. [:)]

I have been working on this getting healthy thing for over three years--- that's when I gave up smoking------now it's a two year diet---I lost about 70lbs the first year--- I never knew how bad some foods are for you until I took a two week class on eating right for diabetes.
Getting healthy ain't going to happen over night I spent a life time getting this far out of shape.

Rich, ordered the book and it came in on Thursday, finished reading it today while on the exercise bike. I would agree with you on recommending to others. I also agree that not will embrace it but I found it to be very thought provoking. It has many good explanations for some of the mysteries of life, reaffirming some of what I believe and challenging some other points. It was very good to read, loved the format of it.

So if you haven't read it, Rich and I would recommend it.
