Found this in another fourm and thought I would pass the deal. Flash drive is $10.95 with free shipping. And if you use Google checkout you can get $10 off your 1st order. So total is a big .95 cents. Make sure you check the free shipping on checkout....

Mine is on the way....

They also have a 1 gig listed for $10.00 so with the above it is free....

Those are great buys. But, no matter what the price, I wouldn't want one. First, removable cap. They get lost, DAMHIK. Second, they aren't password protected. I lost a flash drive that had several important manuscripts on it that I hadn't yet copyrighted. With it were password protected. Don't mean to rain on your post, just a couple thoughts on the subject.

Thanks Mitch. Just ordered an extra one for us as well. I am not too worried about password protection as this is for transfering photos from one location to another. Besides, I won't loose it. :D (Sorry Frank, just had to put my digs in)

Again thanks for posting this. We have had a couple of really nice buys thanks to folks on here. This is not as good as the Craftsman drill press but well worth it none the less.

FWIW, The one pictured has a retractable connector, i.e. no cap.
You can encrypt any document on any media with a variety of tools.

Mitch, thanks for the heads-up; I got my $.95 2 GB thumb drive enroute.
Hey Frank, you know you could just password protect the document itself, don'tcha?!? ;)

Got mine ordered, thanks. Did not really need one, but for less than a $1, what the heck. Took less time to order than me ruining a pen blank. [xx(] By the way that does not take long!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I can't wait for mine to get here. I haven't quite decided whether I'm going to segment it or cast it into a "Worthless Flash Drive". [:p]

Maybe if I leave it outside in the mud for 6 months it'll spalt. heh

Frank-

Many of the better brands include free encryption software (you need to set this up BEFORE you copy files onto the drive). I'm not sure how strong the encryption is, and I suppose it could be hacked if the right person were to find your drive. Still, I never carry highly-sensitive material on my flash drive, such as attorney-client information.

As for the cap problem, I just bought a 4GB Memorex where the drive swings out of a fob - no cap to lose. I think I paid around $30 at Staples.

For copyright, it goes into effect the moment your work is "fixed in a tangible medium" - as soon as it is somehow recorded. Computer memory has long been considered by the courts to be a "tangible medium." Of course, it is a good idea to register your works with the US Copyright office in the event someone infringes and you want standing to sue in federal court.

Cheers.

Ordered mine as well. :D

I already own and use a similar 2GB one and having a backup won't hurt...especially for $0.95!

Thank you.

Ever read the buy.com privacy policy?

"...your Personally Identifiable Information is shared with BuyServices and our other third-party fulfillment partners and service providers, and with certain other merchants on our site."

They're making way more off selling your email address than the cost of that stick.

I already own a handful of these devices and I love them.

My cell phone has a 2 gig sd mirco chip. When ever I need to move data from one place to another (work to hone and back) I just plug my cell phone into the computer and use it as a flash drive.

Frank: if you move DVDs,CDs or floppies around you run the same risk with security.

Jeff: Good catch!

I have an 8G, 4G and now (2) 2G with the purchase of this one. Most of them are designated just for certain things. Such as pictures, pen business stuff, my daughters school work etc. They really are very handy.
I also un-checked the box for them to share my email address with other people, hope this helps.
