This was probably the most difficult pen I've built up to this point. I knew from other castings that the thickness of the resin would be too thick to magnify the logo to the surface so I needed to build up the 3/8" tube that came with the kit. I glued up a scrap blank to the original tube and turned it down so the largest brass tube I had would slide over it. Then I glued the larger tube to the scrap blank. Then I wrapped the cloth around the larger tube and cast. The next problem was that my 3/4" pen mill was too small to trim the ends for the large bushings. I used smaller bushings for another kit and used a parting tool to trim what was need for the proper bushings to fit. After all that it was a piece of cake. Thanks for looks and questions and comments welcome.

Nice work !!!

But I don't get this part about the "cloth" ...... "I wrapped the cloth around the larger tube" .... don't see the cloth, and what is its purpose ?

Also, I did not know that there is a 50 Caliber Bolt Action kit ..... where did you get it ? . I am familiar with PSI's 30 Caliber B.A.

I'll try to give you a little more info Mal. I have a vinyl cutting machine that people use for scrapbooking and tee shirts and hats. I cut an image out with that. That's what the TX A&M is. Then I'll iron the image on a piece of cloth. That's the Marine look go on a piece of red cloth. Then I'll wrap the cloth around the tube just like you would a label or a stamp. Then I'll cast that in resin and turn.

Sorry. There's a local store similar to a Woodcraft. They sell different pen and knife kits alone with wood and other things. I picked them up there. The name of the store is Wood World. It's actually in Dallas but it's on the Far East side so it's not too far for me to go. I think they buy kits on their own so I'm not sure if another dealer made get carry then. It is entirely a kit and has nothing that uses a real cartridge like some of the others available.

@Kenny Durrant

OK, thanks. . I have never seen a 50 Caliber Bolt Action kit before. . 30 Caliber, yes. . But not 50 Caliber.

It's a wee bit far for me to go to that store to check it out ! . Do they have a website ?

I'll see what I can find on the web.

I'm checking on the kits Mal. They don't keep the website and their stock up to date at times. Also if you leave early enough to pick them up yourself I'd be happy to buy you lunch!!!!

Thanks for the offer of lunch, Kenny !!! ... :D:D:D:D:D ... Mind if I take a rain-check on that offer ?!?! . Someday I might be in TX ... not sure tho' !!!

Tell him to call the store directly. 972/669-9130. Closed on Monday. Open 10 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday. That's what I got from an employee. I don't know what the call would cost. If you like I can get some numbers together and PM you.

One more thing Mal. Last Monday we had a temperature of 1 degree with snow and ice all over the place. Now it's 70 degrees and sunny. Not sure what the weather is there but I wouldn't think it's this warm.

Thanks, Kenny. . 70 degrees, eh? . I would think that is more the normal for you than what it has been in the last few days.

I assume that makes you happy !! . . I would love it to be 70 here .... that's more like our late spring and early summer weather.

Our temps recently were right around freezing, so that's 32 degrees F ( we now use Centigrade ... aka Celsius , but I grew up with Fahrenheit)

I am on the Pacific Coast of British Columbia, Canada. . It never gets very cold here ... around freezing or a little below is quite common for middle of winter. . But I can remember as a kid going ice-skating on the local park ponds for a period of 2 weeks or so. . And it was common to get 3 - 4 feet of snow. . Not anymore, thankfully. . Most winters now produce very little snow ..... this year, I think we have had about 1" in total. . I like it this way, but I could take your 70 degrees very comfortably !! . I like it to be warm (but not hot) .

Don't worry about phoning for the pen data .... I was more curious than anything. . A 50 Cal pen is too big for my liking even if it is Bolt Action.
I am a big fan of the Bolt Action style of pen, though, and I make a lot of the PSI 30 Cal. Bolt Action pens.
So don't worry about it anymore. . Thanks for replying to all my "awkward" questions !!! . :D :D
