Not politics (I hope)...just news.

Costing US $12 Billion a month or $400 million per day. WOW!!!

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/10/iraq.cost.of.war/

Story Highlights
- In Washington Post, economist figures Iraq war will cost $12 billion a month
- Pentagon spokesman says $3 trillion "seems way out of the ballpark to me"
- White House spokeswoman says she doesn't know where figures come from
- Nobel Prize-winning economist, former CFO at Commerce Department wrote piece

"...combined with a $12 billion per month war in Iraq and cuts to investments in our workforce and infrastructure to create a budget deficit of more than $400 billion and a national debt that has grown by $3 trillion," Reid said. "The result? An economy that is failing millions of American families."

Sorry Dario,

I see this as a political post. It may not be your intention, but pointing to the costs with no mention of positive impacts is very one sided. I don't want to argue with you here, but I don't see how this cannot be perceived as political.

... numbers are way off target. Typical election year rhetoric to stir the voters into a frenzy with little research to back up the supposed "facts."

On to better things... How about Portland State playing Kansas!? Portland by 5 in an upset win![}:)]:D[:p]

What are the numbers then if this is way off mark?

Why are you baiting me.......again [:0]
Foot in mouth today, I'll pass on my response. :)
( for fear of being perminately banned ) :D

I have often wondered if they are including in this figure the wages and normal every day expense of the military if they were not at war or is this figure on top of all of that.
Bob

Yep... the figures are total politically fabricated nonsense, just look at the sources. Even at those exaggerated costs though, I'd rather spend the money to keep the fight THERE than pay to rebuild downtown Seattle, Or Denver or ...

Chris,

Don't want to argue as well but I personally don't see any positive impact for this war other than enriching military contractors. They make billions selling bombs, vehicles, planes, missiles, etc.

If there is any positive...for me, it is clouded by;
3,990 fatalities,
29,395 wounded,
and the $400 Million dollars per DAY that MAYBE could be used better here.

These fatalities and wounded numbers will keep growing per day too.

Want to thank our troops? Giving them more bombs or better guns is good...BUT bringing them to safety of their home and their family is better.

JMHO.

Abortions = 3,500 dead DAILY(... or 1.27 MILLION every year), who are not considered human so one person can exercise their freedom.

Civil War = 650,000 dead out of a much smaller population pool.

Iraq = 3,990 dead in 5 years or 2 per day. (not to trivialize the loss, I have a Marine heading to Iraq in April and a brother in the Army just back from Afghanistan.)

Bottom line, it's all about freedom and what it's worth to everyone. It will always be worth more to some that others. Some will always pay a higher price to the benefit of others, be-it a baby or a soldier.

Sorry for my skewed perspective... (I used "skewed", so it is not political, it's about turning!;):D)

SuperDave

Thank your brother, and your son for their service, and if while over there, your son needs anything, give me a holler, and I will be happy to put together a "care" package and a note!

Congressional Research Service has the current cost of the war at $512B or $280M daily.
CNN has the cost of the war at $720B or $394M daily.

Difference: A mere $114M a day... but what's a few dollars between fiends?

Dario, you have the cost of the war at $3Trillion;) which is actually a number used to project the National Debt, which cannot be tied exclusively to the war in Iraq, but sounds good on a CNN sound bite and gets the attention of the casual listener / observer, who then passes it along as fact. You might consider editing your SUBJECT line to more accurately reflect the facts.;)

Then CNN and others want to factor in inflation and compare to 2001 dollar valuations divided by the average daily cost of a gallon of gas and peg that to the consumer price index, pro-rated by prime +2 points, minus all economic dollars generated by war support industries, divided by the current population... to arrive at the cost to the average legal, tax paying, American citizen.

Works for me....[}:)]:D[:p]

... now how about Portland State and Kansas?

Now I think you were trying to make a political point.

Time to lock the thread.

You fogot: When those who keep being upset over the lost lives in Iraq, start having the same sentiment that around 50,000 die each year here in the United States do to drunk driving. Then I might want to listen to them about Iraq.
