14-17 Youth Contest Voting

Announcement,
Because life can get in the way, I apologize for this contest starting late. Also, because of a mistake on my part....This contest will have some entries that should have been in the other youth contest. This is totally my fault.
Again, I am sorry this happen but I do want all the kids to be able to see their entries.​

With that said.......here are the pens for this contest.

He did all the work himself, except I (mom) trim and drill the blanks. This is pink spectraply with a PSI funline kit.

Gatsby kit in gold. Bubinga turned with a gouge then sanded from 180-600. Finished with linseed oil and CA glue, then carnuba wax and paper towel.

Big Ben Cigar pen in rhodium, turbulent waters acrylic, sanded with MM to 12000 (that was her favorite part).

I assisted with teaching and some hands on to show how to usetools and help fine tune. She did 90% to 95% of the turning work. We are bothnew at this! This pen was more hands on for her then the last one I sent in.She did 100% of sanding and finishing.
The pen is the woodcraft click pen kit, but this was the pencilversion and she takes it to school now. She loves using it at high school. We used a PSI Woodworking Pomegranate martini Rhino Pen blank.

The following pen was created by my son. This is his first solo expedition of segmenting. He essentially did all of the work on the pen. It is Brown Mallee and African Blackwood with a motel key card sandwiched between.

I assisted with teaching and some hands on to show how to use tools and help fine tune. She did 85% to 90% of the turning work. We are both new at this! She did 100% of sanding and finishing.

The pen is the woodcraft hourglass pen kit. We used an acrylic from one of the 3lb various acrylic blank pieces from woodcraft.

It is a circuit board blank on a cigar pen kit. I did everything for the pen by myself.

This pen is a southwest pen made with desert ironwood. The saguaro is hand-carved into the ironwood and is inlaid with natural crushed turquoise. A CA finish was used for a high-gloss finish.

I have made a pen that I call Suspension 2, based off of the shape of a suspension bridge. I made this pen from start to finish. I drilled and cut the blank, glued the tubes in, turned it, and finished it with tung oil with no help from my father. He is the other pen turner in my house.
He usually makes a more traditional shape of pen whereas I make more artistic pens.This specific blank came as one of the "extras" when my father bought some blanks, and was finished with sandpaper up to 600 grit and a few coats of tung oil. I chose a gold hardware set because I thought it matched the best out of the 6 colors we have.

For some reason beyond me right now, this posting hasn't been made into a poll. I don't know why but I do know I can't change it. This is going to have to be done by higher powers then me.

Tonight, at a secret location in a large snow bank somewhere in central Minnesota, all the names from the youth contests will be put into a large cardboard box.
After a long and secret ceremony.....the names will be drawn out by hand protected by a surgical glove. This glove has be pick for it's protection from infection. So the kids will not have to worry about catching something from the snow bank.
(remember kids, don't eat yellow snow)

When the sun is high in the sky. And before the next snow storm gets here from Utah.......the winners of the youth drawing will be posted. At which time prizes will be announced and packaged for the USPS .

Said prizes will be then delivered and postage paid on Monday. Tracking numbers will be available to those who send a request along with the super secret word.
