Yup---if you want the shop to be warm in the morning you have to feed the wood stove in the middle of the night. It's a balmy 14 degrees outside right now.
I just wanted to share some of the fun with everyone.

I dont know how you guys do it. Its 46 deg here and Im waiting for my 90 deg weather. Would take the summer over the winter any time. Really hate rainy cold.......

If you could see where I live you would know why------biggest sell point---no neighbors----145 acre back yard and 3000 acres of Fed wetlands across the road. There are so many animals running and flying around here it's almost like living in a zoo. Walked out the back door yesterday and there where 30 turkeys standing in the back yard---if I wanted to I could of thrown rocks and hit one. I have seen so many birds play and fight over the years ----I wish everyone could of seen just a small part of our daily lifes.
Plus I don't have neighbors------ :)

Gary, I'm with you in that seeing the wildlife is worth a lot. I had a mixed (age-wise) flock of about 2 dozen turkeys that came to my squirrel feeder for left over corn on the ground every morning this summer. Deer come to my scrub apple tree on a regular basis. I do have neighbors, but I can deal with that since there is a huge area of undeveloped land leading up to a mountain in my back yard. Best view around, one that someone else pays the taxes on!

After most of my life in Louisiana, I am still excited by snow, and an area that has four distinct seasons.

Gary,

I have not ben to your specific area, but have driven to our hospital in Corbin several times and the view along the way is gorgeous. The last time I was there, the leaves had just started changing and the drive from Glasgow to Somerset could not be described.

Kentucky has a little of everything in the way of terrain, except desert. Although, with the lack of rain last year, my back yard was pretty close...

Luckily, our shop is in our attached garage. Several years ago, we upgraded our home's heat and air systems and extended the ductwork to cover the garage, also. This left us with slightly higher monthly bills, but allows us a comfortable area to work, as long as the garage door isn't opened.

My FIL, on the other hand, has his shop in an outbuilding that has neither heat nor air. It is not a fun place to work in, most of the year.

Cav, I hear you about the 4 seasons. I was raised in Arizona and we had 1, summer. And what good is it to see forever if all you can see is nothing. I don't like flat land and can put up with the few cold months. My shop has its own heat and runs about 100 a month if it's really cold out.
Gary, I have central heat in mine and am thinking about hooking up awood burner as a main heat while I'm in there working but the central is a neccesity for all the glues and chemicals I have. Like you noted about putting wood on, I'm not one to go out in the middle of the night and put wood on. Just pull them covers up a little higher.

I miss my place in the country...

Now I could throw a rock from my front yard and hit any one of 30 houses.
