Hi everyone, this is a nice Hala covered bowl that I made. This is the traditional Hawaiian Calabash shape that I love doing. Hala is a Pandanus, it looks like Coconut but it is much harder and the color is more red than Coconut. The only problem with Hala is that most trees are hollow, only some are solid so you can turn a bowl.
I hope you all enjoy the picture. Aloha.

I got a small piece of Hala decades ago. Was told by the sawyer that the tree is protected and the only way to get a piece is if a branch falls off. Is this true? And how much do you have

No that is wrong, Hala grows everywhere in the pacific area, Hawaii has a lot as do all the other Hawaiian Island. The hard part is finding a tree that is not hollow or that has a small hollow so you can use some of the wood for pen blanks, the one that made this bowl was solid through and through, that is rare.
I have to look to see how much I have, I might have a few pen blanks. Aloha.
