Now I realize that Cocobolo isn't from the southwest United States but from inventory it was the best match. Same old thing, finished in Pens Plus.
Not really totally impressed with the fit of this kit but maybe I need to check equipment again.
Photo looks better than in the hand🤣

Although both are nice looking pens, I agree with you, I prefer the Cocobolo one. I think it is because my go-to wood for Southwest themed pens is Sonoran Desert Ironwood which Cocobolo often resembles. Still, Padauk is a really pretty wood - It can be especially chatoyant. (At least I think it is Padauk) - Dave

They both look good. You can't go wrong with Cocobolo as long as it has some nice color. I always like the way the dark pores stand out in the lighter, brighter colors.
Is the second one bloodwood? That's a favorite of mine, too.

Yes, bloodwood. I think it is my "go to" favorite.
The cocobolo I have is not the greatest and have been meaning to grab some that I saw a Woodcraft a while ago - it was a super special batch just didn't grab it due to its price.
