My last segmented Cigar with Antique Silver plating was ok, but there were definite improvements to be made:
1) I used an old sanding sled to apply 30 degree angled scallops - This is not a precise method to make consistently even angles. I had totally forgotten I had built a complete segmenting sled with plates of different angles to cut - I used the sled this time and made the scallops 45 degrees. The angles are more precise, resulting in more consistent junctions ("Vs") in the scallops.
2) I had used white veneer as a divider, and I had a blowout. This time I used 0.010" polystyrene strips for the separator, for more crisp dividers. I also used black veneer but that mostly blends into the African Blackwood.
The main thing I am not happy about with this new pen is the huge variability in the spalted hackberry. It seems the stabilizer did not get complete penetration of the stabilizing dye. I actually kind of like the lighter sections on the hackberry - I just wish that all the sections were similar. One is almost totally black. Oh Well.
Anyway, here is the latest.
