Here's another one where the blanks have been squared and ready to turn for a couple months or so. I'm finally getting around to some of these. Yay me.

Just as the the title says, it's a Majestic Jr. with Brown Mallee. The finish is 3 coats of Gluboost med and 2 thin. I always wet sand it to an even sheen with the coarse Zona grit paper, then polish on through the other grits. I did hit it with some Maguire's plastic polish to smooth out the gloss, but I'm not sure it does much with the Zona fine grit being 1 micron.

Beautiful! The swirls in that burl are amazing.

What kit is that exactly? I don't think I've ever seen that band and cap...antique gold? Antique brass?


FWIW, I find that polishing and/or buffing after the Zona 1 micron STILL does add benefit. At certain angles, the final set of scratches from the 1 micron can still be seen. Even if you run lengthwise, you can still pick up some of those scratches in the right light, or even just light at the right angle. Buffing tends to smooth out the sharp edges of those fine scratches, and will even eliminate many of them entirely, so you just can't see them anymore. I polish sometimes as well, if for some reason buffing alone doesn't work (I'll polish then lightly buff again.) The Zona paper is amazing, but it does leave hard-edged scratches even at 1 micron, and as fine as that may be, if you want that crystal clear finish, I find buffing is usually the best way to smooth those hard edges out.

Mother nature provides some amazing materials, we just bring the beauty out of them.
I'm not overly happy with the weather she's been hitting us with here lately, though.

I love working with antiqued finishes. The oil rubbed bronze kits are nice too.

EB might still have some In that finish.

Aye! There is something about the patina of them, so nice. I like gold and platinum and rhodium platings, but sometimes they are just too shiny, and an antiqued finish is just the ticket.

Our work (the barrel) stands out more without the distraction of flashy hardware.
