Eight sided Celtic knot. Way easier than i expected. This is my first one, won't be my last. Blank was fun to build. Woods are spalted Jatoba and the infill is Holly and Redheart. The pen is a Liberty click from Mackenzie Penworks.
The holly is only .014 thick so you're not seeing a very big area.Very clean. I would have never guessed Holly as one of the veneers. I would think it would be much higher of a contrast. With that said, I think the result is better this way, the three species work do nicely together. Good work, would have loved to see a picture of the blank pre-turning.
Here's number two. Same look, different colors.Very clean. I would have never guessed Holly as one of the veneers. I would think it would be much higher of a contrast. Very nice. Can't wait to see it turned. Here's number two. Same look, different colors.
Yeah, I get that, just almost looked the same as the primary in color. If you used pvc it would be obviously white, even at that thickness. I like your choice now more. The holly is only .014 thick so you're not seeing a very big area.
Pen of the month is from Steve, I just helped with the jig he made.I like it! It kind of makes the one on the home page look plain. What's the chance of getting two months in a row!!!!!
No I did not cut all the way through, makes it way easier.Wow, that's nice!! I really like the choice of wood/colors on this, too. Did you cut all the way through the blank? I know I've seen posts about not cutting all the way through to keep things lined up while gluing it up.
What size of blank did you start with? What did you use to make the cuts. Looks thin. Was it a 1/16" 7-1/4" blade in your tablesaw? No I did not cut all the way through, makes it way easier.
Blank was .870 and it was cut on my bandsaw with a kerf of .045.What size of blank did you start with? What did you use to make the cuts. Looks thin. Was it a 1/16" 7-1/4" blade in your tablesaw?
Very close attention on the first cut and then I set up a stop block to match the first cut.1mm kerf is respectable, lol. Did you setup some sort of stop to prevent cutting through the blank or just pay close attention to cut depth?
Thanks, that seems to be a smart method to me. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with this next.Very close attention on the first cut and then I set up a stop block to match the first cut.
Thanks. That is thin and then match that to infill material in itself is a pretty tough job. Nice work. I guess we will see these on the web site. Good luck with sales.Blank was .870 and it was cut on my bandsaw with a kerf of .045.
I probably will put some on Etsy ,once I get a few more made. I have other things though I have to get to first.Thanks. That is thin and then match that to infill material in itself is a pretty tough job. Nice work. I guess we will see these on the web site. Good luck with sales.
