I really like Lignum Vitae too, but it seems like everything I have ever made from it develops a crack over time. For me it just adds character, since I know the history of the wood, but I'm sure others don't really see it that way. - Dave

What was the source of the Lignum that cracked?
Mine came from a lawn bowl which was probably 50 years of age.
I'm hoping that mine doesnt crack.
I know that a couple of bowls that I cut up in the past had some fissures, but this last one was very clean.

My Lignum Vitae is kind of one of those woods with a story. It was cut from propeller shaft bushings that came out of a decommissioned ocean liner, the MV Doulos Phos. When it was decommissioned it held the record of being the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship serving from 1914 to 2009. It is now dry docked and has been converted into a luxury hotel in Indonesia. - Dave
