I have some Apollo kits that are about that old that I haven't made yet too. Mostly because I'm worried about the very same thing. Regardless, it's a nice looking pen and a very pretty blank. - Dave

I think I would try to integrate a center band on one of the pieces. Maybe cut a small tenon and then superglue it on. obviously it may be difficult to find something exact, but you could use something like black Corian or maybe a cutoff of another kitless blank. That way, you could turn to the exact dimensions you need.

I like the idea of adding a small center band to one of the pieces (suggest the cap). I have done this as well and then made sure I recessed the cap insert by another 1/8" to accomodate the lip on the nib insert.

Coincidentally, I did my first Artemis a few weeks ago and remember something about this.

"You do not want the cap insert to sit flush with the end of the blank. You should have a little bit of overhang that will cover the hardware that sits proud of the body blank. "
"If you do mess this part up, it's very easy to part off the end of your cap blank down to the threaded insert and glue on an accent band. Then just turn the accent band down flush."

Accent band as others have alluded.

FWIW & future, the cap insert should be recessed a bit. Many people use the instructions and don't see the instructions + tips pdf.
The cap inserts have a way of wanting to "jack" themselves out of the cap as the epoxy sets if you don't take precautions to prevent that from happening. DAMHIKT

Here is on e that I first made, earned had to really watch measurements to insure good fit. just took installed body in collet chuck installed brass band , turned off to fit.

I think rixstix hit on what happened. When I can get out to the shop I will try a tenon extension. The really bad thing is I have an Artemis the same way.

Unfortunate, I have done this before as well! You gotta start over with the cap. Drill it a little deeper though. Are you measuring at the tip of the drill bit or the shoulder?

This is the Artemis I messed up. The appolo band cracked so I have to try again.

Thanks for the help!
