I have wanted that nib holder shape on ball point/rollerball pens with a nib/nose cone similar to the shape in the video. One of these days, I am going to make my own with that design. I love playing with shapes when I have time.

Keep it up and show us some more as you develop them.

That came out great, and the blank is perfect for it, too. Did you pour that one?

very nice! i've only done a few of these and always struggle with chatter in the middle. this is a beautiful piece
I run into that with magic wands and have to be soooo careful, especially because they are 12". It's amazing what a difference it makes to have a brass tube in the middle of a piece to stabilize it.

Thank you Kate, I do get chatter, I just work it very carefully when that happens. I'm using carbide as well, sharp tools of course are helpful. One of the things I've learned is to not crank down my tail stock too tightly, if you start to thin out your tail it can bow and cause a break.

I work from the tail stock to the head stock with my nib end at the tail stock, which I think is not typical. I'm still working out the best process for me.

This one is my best practice piece so far, I think the cove and bead are more defined, and proportions are nice.

Thank you, yes I poured that blank.

I can't imagine 12", these are only 6" to 6.25" and sometimes it's a struggle, but I'm just learning.

The pens look good but I have to whine a little about the videos. I'm on a rural WiFi network, the dish on the side of the house being aimed at a 600' high tower 3 or more miles away. If I can even open the video it takes several minutes before it starts to play if at all. It would make me happier if you also included a couple pictures of only a few hundred kilobytes each. Then I could see what you made in just a few seconds. Pictures of that size display and show detail just fine. I can't be the only one not on fibre optic in a city.

That's why I let you know there's a video so you don't have to open it up. Photos don't always show the nuances of a blank. I often post only photos. 😀

It's unfortunate that today's phones dont allow lowering resoltion or frame count. All you get is hugemongous.

It takes 10 to 15 seconds on my 300mbps fiber.

BTW, great looking piece.
