This is Abalone Shell. Overall this one went pretty smooth. I've got one more to finish up then I'll take what I've learned from these and try to come up with another one. Questions and Comments Welcome.

Holy moly. How did you get the abalone to wrap around like that? I typically actually don't like abalone pens much, because it does not look like a continuous shell around the pen. I might try to make an abalone pen if, even if I take a long time to learn how to do it, can come out like this. Is there any resources you'd recommend on how to make the abalone look like this?

Thank you for the compliment. I bought the shell from Blue Maui. It's called flex pearl. The shell has a thin plastic coating so when it cracks it won't fall apart. I think the cracking is a fair trade off from the strips. Of coarse you'll have a seam but on the dark colors it not very noticeable. A tip from John U. is to have about an 1/8" overlap and use clear fingernail polish to seal and keep the seam from lifting. Very easy material to work with.

Wow, that is so surprising how easy it sounds to do that! I looked at Blue Maui website, and have emailed them asking if I can have one of their sample packs haha! I love abalone, I'm thrilled that there is a way to work with it in a way that doesn't create those lines. Ok, thank you John, I will do that. Is the cracking super obvious, and if so is there any ways to control or minimise the cracking? This is so cool, I'm so excited!

What is Blue Baui. Do you have a full name or is it an ebay shop?
