Thank you for the compliment. I bought the shell from Blue Maui. It's called flex pearl. The shell has a thin plastic coating so when it cracks it won't fall apart. I think the cracking is a fair trade off from the strips. Of coarse you'll have a seam but on the dark colors it not very noticeable. A tip from John U. is to have about an 1/8" overlap and use clear fingernail polish to seal and keep the seam from lifting. Very easy material to work with.Holy moly. How did you get the abalone to wrap around like that? I typically actually don't like abalone pens much, because it does not look like a continuous shell around the pen. I might try to make an abalone pen if, even if I take a long time to learn how to do it, can come out like this. Is there any resources you'd recommend on how to make the abalone look like this?
