Decided to try a hybrid with the a Band-It, from Ecotic Blanks. I made the blank consisting of stabilized box elder and Alumilite clear, swirled red and yellow. The tubes were painted red. The center and and matching finial were inlayed with crushed red opal. Finish is Glu Boost. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Very Nice. It's going to be tough making pens without the custom finial and center band now that we know how much those add to the overall look of the pen.
I'll always do a custom finial on these. That's optional on this pen, the center band is mandatory.

Where did you find that fiery red opal? I use a lot of crushed stone at the center, and red jasper is the closest to red I have found. Yours is spectacular.
