This is number three. Wood is cumuru. The center band and matching finial are Krakatoa opal, both were back painted gold. The opal looks a lot like abalone. A couple thoughts I have about this kit, first, I don't think I could ever make this pen without a custom finial, it just screams for one. My second thought is that I don't think it would look as good with a segmented blank. To my way of thinking, I want your eyes drawn to the inlay. I'm not a fan of multiple design features on one pen. A gorgeous center band and matching finial is enough for me. Comments and critiques welcomed.

Beautiful pen Ken. I agree with your comments. For this kit, the finial and center band should be the focus. I really wish I was turning and could play with this, but alas. I love design elements that still allow the bulk of the burl/attractive timber to be 80% of the pen - solid upper and lowers, trim rings, finial... stop and enjoy.

I'm enjoying seeing the renditions of this kit - very attractive. đź‘Ť đź‘Ť đź‘Ť

Beautifully done Ken. It's elegant but yet screams.. "look at me!" I have yet to see a material that doesn't look good with stainless. Very inspiring!
