Started down the segmented bowl path and quickly got addicted (just like pen making). Here are my most recent creations.
I did not find it difficult to do. I upsized my segment widths to give me a little more tolerance. The hardest part I found is gluing the rings together and keeping them relatively concentric (why I went with wider widths). I glued them off of the lathe which makes it a little more difficult. The other challenge for me is sanding the disks flat before gluing. I made a large disk sander jig for my lathe. The "spiral" bowl is 3/8" thick segments which were difficult to hold on the sander. Burned some holes in work gloves that I used. A drum sander would be much better.I've built the segmenting jigs but have yet to start on a bowl. How difficult did you find it t first? And what software do you use to determine the dimensions?
