I wrote that I'd found a use for the PennState "Big Grabber" mandrel after letting it sit on the shelf for years in THIS POST

Here's the finished ornament fitted with its African Blackwood finials ...

Very well done, Duncan. Who wouldn't want a tree full of those šŸ˜ƒ The ABW provides a nice contrast to the fordite. Out of curiosity, what are the general dimensions of the ornament?

Thanks Dan!

The globe is about 1-7/8" at the equator, not quite as high as it is around. Finials tip-to-tip about 4".
