so I figured I'd share. Oak, walnut, and meranti. The only "finish" on them is homemade abrasive paste (diatomaceous earth, beeswax, mineral oil; 1:1:4). The grain pattern on the meranti finials is particularly fun.

Couldn't have done it without 3d printed threaded inserts (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4147994) and 3d printed soft jaws (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2600181).

Despite my poor epoxy skills, I am well pleased with how they came out. My kids loved them :)

Wow! wouldn't describe the music boxes. Beautiful turnings! Meranti is a new one for me. Where did you get the music sets?

Meranti (AKA Philippine Mahogany, or Lauan in plywood form) is a group of woods from the Shorea family. I hit an estate sale of a retiring general contractor that had a variety of walnut, meranti, ipe, honey locust, etc, that were leftovers from various jobs. I bought a bunch of the cheaper woods ... dirt cheap.

As for the movements... https://www.strongink.com.cn/goods-721.html. All six are Kimiwo Nosete, better known as the theme song to the movie Castle in the Sky. Shipping is slow, and expensive so buy in bulk. Quality seems reasonable - they all survived my mis-handling as I tried to figure out a design that fit the tools and skills I had available.

Hmm. Around here, dirt isn't cheap as my son has priced property and homes. Thanks for the info on the wood; I recall luan paneling in the olden days. And for the source on music movements.

Great idea with the threads! Well done.
Credit for the 3d printed threaded inserts goes to Thingiverse user '_dvp_'. They're not as nice as hand-chased turned threads... but they make it possible for those of us of limited tools and limited - but growing - skills to make cool things :)
