Sloth Walnut

This is a Sloth screw cap rollerball in chrome, From Woodturningz. The wood is black walnut. The finish is Mylands and carnuba wax. I'm disappointed in the pen for several reasons. It's top heavy, which I kind of expected, but it's more uncomfortable to write with than I expected. The sloth on the clip is barely recognizable as such. And I don't like the weird ridge around the center band. Not sure what it's supposed to represent. I'm also disappointed in the black walnut. It has barely any figure.

I agree with you. Standard Black Walnut can be pretty plain looking. I did pick up some chunks of Claro Walnut at our WoodCraft a while back and it has amazing swirly grain and figure. Still, plain old walnut is one of my favorite woods to work with and for other projects. - Dave

This was from some black walnut that was given to me, that had spectacular grain. I struck out on this piece.

That is an interesting kit. You did a great job on it, but I'm not too sure about the sloth part. A lot of the themed pens seem to look good in the pictures, but don't have the same definition/detail in person. It looks to me like the center band is supposed to be sloth arms wrapped around the pen.
