This is a Script click pen in chrome, from Woodcraft. The wood is wenge, and the finish is Mylands. I can't decide if I like the wenge or not.

Hi Jim,
I have used Wenge before and have found it to be somewhat "Paduk-like" with a coarse and open texture grain. I think it goes good with the chrome finish. - Dave

I liked the looks of Wenge and bought a small slab of it intending to make pens with it. I made a desktop pen holder for my son to hold the pens I gave him and as a solid piece it looks fantastic. I was disappointed in the few pens I made with it because of the open grain texture of the wood in such a small piece and the fact that the interesting grain pattern in the larger piece of wood just kind of disappeared. I think I'll use the rest of it for purposes other than pens.

It is a good looking pen, I also think the Wenge works with it. I would say don't give up on the Wenge yet, I wasn't a big fan of it as well then I came across one of Mark Dreyer's videos that mentioned bleaching the Wenge. So I tried it, and loved it. See for yourself.

First off, I have not said this in a while, but thanks for putting such detailed pictures up so we can get a good look at the kits (and your work, of course ;) ).

I like wenge, but like @Lew said, also find that the grain disappears on a small piece. It looks good until I apply the finish, then the lighter parts of the grain just turn dark. Guess I haven't found the right finish. Yours came out quite nicely. Did you use the cellulose sealer before the friction polish?

I must try this. That is a nice looking pen. I'm thinking the end appearance can be adjusted with the amount/dilution/soaking time in the bleach?
This method also has me questioning if I can dye it after bleaching it. Hmm... Anyway, looks like I'm off to Mark's youtube channel again.

Photos are my journal. I often refer back to one photo or other to look at details when I'm turning another of the same kit. I will also post certain photos when someone here asks a question about a kit. Two body pens usually get over 100 photos.

That is a definite improvement of the Wenger. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

That's great looking, definitely different from the unbleached wenge. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks.

Did you turn it before bleaching it?
