These are wonderfully unique! I love the small small shells and the slotted blanks. Very impressive. đź‘Ź đź‘Ź

I love the work that you have presented above ! ! ! Very unique indeed ! !

The precision of the slotted coconut with abalone strip inlays to fit the slots is especially impressive !

Did you cut both the slots and the matching abalone strips with the laser ?

What type (CO2 ?) and brand of laser do you use ?

I'd love to learn more if you don't mind describing your processes to achieve these spectacular results.

I using a chineses CO2 LAser 100W . And place a rotary systeme when i need to engrave on pen . it's around 3500/4000USD from china

the strips are laser cut. But there is also another way of cutting lots of small pieces and sticking them

We use CA Gel to just to fix the elements. then we use epoxy resin all the time.
you can just apply a simple layer with a small brush or a piece of sponge cut like a chip

we pass a first layer of epoxy resin with a small brush.
we always leave a minimum of 24 hours between each step , then we can do the final Casting with epoxy resin to make the blank

How are you cutting the slots?? I see they have squared edges. This idea is on my radar. The ones with the chips I have done. I tried one time of taking a photo but could not get it to look right to show off the brilliant colors. Was going to try out doors. I do have some pens made that I may give another try with photos. Like your work.

Wow. Interesting. I have been trying to find a way to cut abalone strips for some time now without a laser. Not having much success. Sharp exacto knife works to a degree but very time consuming. Tried a carbide razor blade and that too is not much better. Most people I hear that cut those strips use lasers. Maybe need to buy another toy.

be careful there are different thicknesses of abalone sheet. I use the 2 thicknesses depending on what I want to do. some are very thick from 3 to 4 mm and others very thin like cigarette paper. This what I laser cut

Yes I have both too. The thicker ones have more color choices which I like. I get them from Hawaii. The one that is flexible is the one I have been working with. Thanks.
