This is a Yari click pen in chrome and gunmetal, from Berea. I've made Yari twist pens in the past, but this is my first click version. The olivewood is from my friend Ann. Her husband cut down an olive tree a few years ago. The grain looks more like oak to me, but it doesn't have the open grain of oak. I've never turned any olivewood that looks like this. The finish is Mylands friction finish and carnuba wax.

I was expecting boards, but got a couple of small logs. This stuff is dense!

are you sure this is olive wood?it doesn't look like one to me..there is a tree called Russian olive (eleagnus angustifolia) that looks a lot like an olive tree, it might be that (Wikipaedia says it can be found in North America).

I never saw the tree, so I don't know what it looked like, nor did I see the leaves. All I know is, my friend said they cut the tree down about four years ago, and that it was an olive.
