Hey guys,

I figured I would show you my first attempt at pen turning. This was one of the "trimline" pen kits from Penn State, and one of their cocobolo blanks.

Haven't done any experimenting with CA finishes yet, since there is some history of sensitivity to the stuff in the family. This was finished with a 1:1:1 shellac, denatured alcohol, BLO mix. After doing some research, I'm considering trying the lacquer and lacquer thinner instead of shellac and alcohol.

Only thing I still need to figure out is which finish goes with what wood. And how to take better pictures.

Welcome! Looks much better than my first pen. The finish I use now on wood is Pens Plus. It's a friction finish. It works well for me.

A suggestion for CA...Bob Smith Industries and Starbond make odor free CA. I use it a lot at the blind center.

Very nice. Many here experiment with different mixes for finish.
Photos: Use a lighter color background. I use a piece of tan cloth.
