The finish of the wood is very nice. The edge nearest the nib looks like is should have been rounded over. Just a break edge 1 - 2mm.
As a woodworker I love Cherry. It works easily and looks great on furniture and larger pieces of work. I've made a couple pens using Cherry and was never really happy with how it works as a pen. I think it has something to do with not a lot of contrast to the grain.
Don't get me wrong! Your workmanship on the pen itself is great and modifying the kit as a one piece is different. How does it extend the point?

This tiny gap makes it possible for the nib to turn so that the tip can come out. It happened by accident but it worked at the end. Have a look at my previous attempt. I cannot turn the nib no matter what.
