A few weeks back I saw a pen like this on the IAP. I'd give them credit but I don't have a clue who it was. Anyway I saw some chips at a local Woodcraft Store and thought I'd give a try. I'm really pleased with this one so I'll make another to see if it was just luck. Questions and Comments Welcome.

Thanks for the compliments. Like I said before I didn't come up with the idea. I was worried about catching one of the pieces and the blank coming apart. It actually turned easily and when I couldn't take the pressure I switched to sandpaper. Sanding went extremely well. I dry sanded with the coarse papers then started wet sanding from 220 and finer. There's no CA or other finish. I polished with Hut Plastic Polish and done.

I know I have done a couple of these but not sure I ever posted them. I was to try to take a photo outdoors because the color shades gets lost under normal lights. I have 3 in various stages on the bench because I want to add some things. If I ever get back in the shop.

I understand John. I glued this one up and was disappointed in the way it looked. The chips were way above the bushings and I thought the possibility of blowing up on the lathe would be high. I moved in to other projects and thought about taking it apart and I thought I'd go ahead and cat it the next time I was putting others in the pot. Glad I followed through.

Yes that is the danger when using those. I had a problem trying to cover all the nooks and crannies. They are time consuming but make a nice look. Thanks for showing. Some day I will get mine up here if I can find it.
