Have fun. Express yourself.I'd agree with you that those are busy designs on the hardware. Cool, but busy. The plain blank does work well with it.
Oh, my, you have opened up some new ideas for me now. I'm glad you shared this, but my brain is working overtime.
Historic woods are usually plain looking, but increase the appreciation for the pen.
Cast label type blanks with a simple patriotic theme without distracting backgrounds (such as an eagle or the Liberty Bell?) would lend themselves well to these.
Pencil sketch type drawings? Dang, now I want to start casting. There could be some copyright issues to deal with, though. @mbroberg, what do you think?

The colored one looks a little busier than the black and white to me. I had not even thought about getting any until this post got my wheels turning.I really like the ceramic Bolt Action pens, and don't think they're too "busy". But I do agree that a simple blank looks best with them. I made one for my son with a thin blue line blank. He's a corrections officer.
I've made both and like both. This blank is called Marine Dress Blues. I made it for my cousin who is a Marine, and a veteran of the first Gulf War.The colored one looks a little busier than the black and white to me. I had not even thought about getting any until this post got my wheels turning.
I hesitate to answer because I don't think the OP was asking for Intellectual property opinions. It is a sublect that is debated here frequently, often heatedly. Besides, I am far from being an expert. I'll send you a PM.I'd agree with you that those are busy designs on the hardware. Cool, but busy. The plain blank does work well with it.

No sir, not trying to start a completely different discussion than related to the OP of blank choice. Will respond to that PM. Sorry if I have hijacked this post @WriteON. It wasn't the intention.I hesitate to answer because I don't think the OP was asking for Intellectual property opinions. It is a sublect that is debated here frequently, often heatedly. I think your post is very appropriate and appreciated. Nothing negative about it…, rather happy you wish to expand on it. And not taken as a hijack. No sir, not trying to start a completely different discussion than related to the OP of blank choice. Will respond to that PM. Sorry if I have hijacked this post @WriteON. Nice and rather perfectly done. There are no rules to this particular kit but any blank will not do. Yours looks real good … good choice.I've made both and like both. This blank is called Marine Dress Blues. I made it for my cousin who is a Marine, and a veteran of the first Gulf War.
We're good. Feel free to answer any of my posts. As for Blank Choice... was questioning myself...the kit. I started out with a lighter shade of blue and would have used it but the tube was peeking through so I shifted to a solid. Would enjoy seeing what other turners did or suggest.I hesitate to answer because I don't think the OP was asking for Intellectual property opinions.
