Three sketch or shop pencils finished up today after shipping the tackle box. Peruvian rosewood, spectraply and blue box elder burl aka starry starry night.

By the way, it's official I hate autocorrect.

VERY nice work, Mark ! ! ! !

I'd be interested to know how well your customers respond to these .

So far I've made six and until today I was out of stock. The plan is five on display though two seem to be sold already. I'll order more.

As a side note: the instructions say drill a 13/32" hole. The tube did not fit any of the ten holes drilled as directed. I ended up with 7/16". Go figure.

@mmayo

I used the kits from Berea.
I have made several, but don't recall the drill size. I think I was successful just following the instruction sheet recommendation.

One point I want to make, though, is that I made all mine with a single long wood barrel.
It is easy to do that by first pressing the two brass tubes from the kit onto the center band and then turning off the excess centerband metal.
This results in one long brass tube. You then use a long blank and drill it . . If you drill carefully on the lathe you can drill from both ends
and the two holes meet in the middle with no problem.

The recipients of those pencils were happy with the single barrel modification

Very nice, plus you can turn them into pens with a refill from Exotic Blanks.
@Scotty

Really ?

Can you please tell me the name by which that refill is listed on Exotic Blanks website ?

Thank you.

EDIT: . . I might have found it. . . . Is it this one ? . . . It is an adapter to hold a mini-refill . . I would prefer a full-size Parker refill if you know of such.

Nice work.
What lead hardness is in them?
I find the lead available here too soft.

I might buy the Berea single tube kit. The diamond center band keeps the pencil from rolling off of the table, desk or workbench.

The Berea kit, as sold, comes with a center band and is a two-tube kit.

I modify to make it single tube.

@Stuart Robertson
The lead is 5.6 mm diameter if memory serves me correctly.
I believe there are a variety of lead hardnesses of that size available here.
If you want to know for sure, I can look into the matter and let you know.

( Also you can buy colored leads for these pencils. )

I just viewed in that is single tube without magic skills. That was the one I mentioned.
@mmayo
This is the one I make . . . (double tube with centerband and hexagonal nuts top and bottom to stop rolling)

And the instructions are here :

And here is my posted thread from a couple of years ago showing modification to a single brass tube (one long barrel, no centerband) . .

Diameter is correct.
I made an enquiry here and answer was yes to other grades, BUT an order of 5000 wasn't really a goer...

Yes that's it. I don't know of a way to use a full size refill.
