This is a new kit from Woodturningz called Clever Click (weird name) in chrome. Simple but kind of cool looking. It has an unusually long plunger. The blank is an inlace acrylester called Crimson & Silver, also from Woodturningz. Made a nice looking pen.

I'm really glad I discovered shear cutting with a carbide chisel. Since I started using this method, I haven't had an inlace acrylester failure (knock on wood). I am no longer afraid of nor reluctant to turn it. Which is nice, because there are some really cool inlace blanks.

Nice. Try an RANR cutter. That is RA (radius) NR negative rake. They are specifically designed for use with acrylics like poly and acrylester blanks.
I find they really work well with those materials. Just my 2 cents.

I have tried negative rake cutters, but didn't see any benefit for me. The cutters I'm using now are 4" radius. I have used 2", 4", and 6" radius, and straight. They all work well with a shearing cut.
 
I have said before why Carbide designed for CNC machining of metal at high speeds. I have tuned many Woods and Synthetic materials with standard HSs tools with no problems. I fail to see the need when working on such small diameters but to each is own..

Have you tried turning inlace acrylester with HSS?

I must say I haven't I must admit I've never heard of it. Is it available in the UK if so I will give it a go.
Believe me I'm not anti Carbide but do not like spending money if not necessary.
If its Acrylic I have and with standard HSS tooling.

Just watched a Guy on YouTube turn a acrylester blank with a Spindle Gouge. It would appear this material a trade marked product of Woodturningz.
 
I never thought about it, but I guess you're right, they're a Woodturningz trademark. I have turned poly resin blanks that were also "chippy".
