So in January I started turning pens in earnest, a way to get out of the house, have some fun, make something functional! I posted this thread to catalog my first couple months, and here is another thread and another. There's about 30 pens I haven't photographed!
Then, I discovered the As The Pen Turns podcast and around the same time MPG happened - between the two a lot of demystifying happened (thanks TONNES for your seminar @RNelson !!) One thing led to another (including a well-timed deal on some good taps + dies) and here I am today, with an instagram account and taking my first commissions! I've still got a ways to go (plenty of experiments have gone wrong and don't make it to the page!) but it is a great community and I'm looking forward to doing more! It's funny, I always figured I would stick with wood but after turning my first couple resin blanks, I'm pretty floored by the beauty of the material that all of the casters out there are making!
Enough jibber jabber, here's some photos!
First kitless pen in a material called "Tiffany 2" by BBC Blanks
A walnut + ebonite pen - drilled through the cap and did a poor job at the inlay/plug, but this one was for learning!
This is also a wood pen - stabilized/dyed buckeye burl sleeved with blue alumilite, gluboost CA finish per @mg_dreyer 's method (i've done a lot of these!)
After a number of tries I finally got a torpedo-shaped pen I was happy with (a pensmiths material, Amber Waves)
Nona Chromism by BBC Blanks
"Breakwater", also by BBC Blanks (he's canadian, I'm canadian, makes for easy purchases!)
