Whenever I make a pen, even when using beautiful materials and adding accent rings and clips etc., it isn't until the nib is added that it really comes to life.
This pen I made from a dark tortoise cellulose and the customer asked for a 14k gold Bock nib. However this one has a keyhole breather and this small detail had a much bigger impact to the overall aesthetic than I thought it would.

( Note I did not mod the nib myself).
Cheers
Ash

That is beautiful! Would you mind sharing your finishing technique?
Hey Tony

Thanks!

So I sand on the lathe (both spinning and stationary) from 220 to 600. Then I use the three wheel buffing system (dark brown, "buff" and yellow - not sure what they are called but I can try to find out). I buff only in one direction - across the length of the pen (hope I'm making sense here).

Any more I can add let me know.

Happy Christmas

Beautiful work. I actually use 4 compounds. We have a similar approach. I am always looking for a better and faster way. Thank you.
